Area Teams Compete in Wallace Scholars’ Bowl


Dothan, Ala.Wallace Community College hosted the 36th Annual Scholars’ Bowl Invitational Tournament on Friday, March 3, at the Wallace Campus in Dothan. Teams from fifteen area high schools vied for trophies and a scholarship to Wallace Community College. Students tested their knowledge in mathematics, history, literature, current events, pop culture, science, and sports.

Team winners were Dothan High School (first place), Wicksburg High School (second place), and The Lakeside School – Eufaula (third place).

The competition for the one-year scholarship to Wallace was tight, resulting in a first-ever tie. As a result, Wallace awarded two one-year scholarships. Jared Stinson, Dothan High School, and Jackson Wewers, Wicksburg High School, each walked away with the coveted prize.

Teams from Abbeville High School, Dothan High School, Emmanuel Christian School, Eufaula High School, Geneva County High School, Goshen High School, Headland High School, Houston Academy, Houston County High School, Northside Methodist Academy, Pike County High School, Providence Christian School, Samson High School, The Lakeside School, and Wicksburg High School competed.

The annual event is open to all high schools in Wallace Community College’s service area, which includes Houston, Henry, Barbour, Bullock, Russell, Dale, and Geneva counties.
