State Tournament Bracket released

The bracket for the Alabama Community College Conference baseball tournament has been released. Also known as the junior college state baseball tournament, the event will get underway Friday morning and will be played at Ozark’s historical Eagle Stadium

“This is the first time the tournament has begun on Friday,” said Wallace baseball coach Mackey Sasser.  Wallace is the official host of tournament. “But what we decided to do was start on a Friday so we could get another weekend day at the beginning when no teams have been eliminated. The crowds have generally been better on weekends and we want to take advantage of that.”

The first game will be played Friday at 9 a.m. It features Calhoun, the number one seed from the Northern Division, against Southern Union, the number two seed from the Central Division.

Game two is set to get underway at 12:30. It features the number one seed from the north, Shelton State, against the number four seed from the south, Jeff Davis.

The 4 p.m. game will feature Snead State, the number two seed from the north, vs Central Alabama, the number three seed from the Central Division. Central is not only the defending state champion, but also won the national championship in Grand Junction, CO.

The home team Wallace Govs earned the number three seed from the South. Wallace will not play until 7:30. The Govs will play Chattahoochee Valley,  the top ranked junior college baseball team in the country.

Faulkner State and Alabama Southern both received first round byes and will not play until Saturday.

There is good news for the Govs in this tournament. If Wallace is able to win their opening day contest, then the Govs wouldn’t play again until Sunday at 7:30. Should they lose, the Govs would play again Saturday at 12:30. A similar situation exists for the winner of the Calhoun and Southern Union game.

The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Wednesday. The championship game will be played at 1 p.m.,  with the “if necessary” game scheduled for 4 p.m.
