Wallace Community College to Host Artist Series in September

Dothan, Ala.—Two up-and-coming artists in the Alabama art scene are scheduled to visit WCC to share their stories and their art. On September 10, Lauren Duncan and Susan Gordon will welcome the community to campus for the opening of their joint exhibition. The event will take place in Cherry Hall on the Wallace Campus in Dothan.

Lauren Duncan studied Fine Art at Auburn University and then pursued graduate studies in Art Education at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. She currently teaches art at Auburn High School. Her passion is painting, which she practices out of her home studio in Auburn. Her inspiration comes from life experience, and most recently from the heartache and grief of infertility. She describes her work as “moments or prayers … trying to make sense of a “good God” in the middle of heartbreak.”

Susan Gordon fell in love with pottery while studying graphic design at Auburn. After completing her education and working a stint as a gallery director, Gordon came back to her love of ceramics and opened Susan Gordon Pottery LLC. Her ceramic designs are meant to be treasured for generations and include dinnerware, serving ware, decorative accents, and jewelry. Gordon is from Birmingham.

The artists will have a question and answer session on from 5:30-6:30 p.m., followed by the show opening and reception from 6:30-8:30 p.m. The exhibition will run through November 12 in the new Wallace Community College Fine Arts Gallery, located in Cherry Hall.
