Wallace Students Volunteer for Spirit of Service Day

Dothan, Ala. – Students from Wallace Community College-Dothan’s Student Government Association, Phi Theta Kappa, and Rotaract organizations participated in the recent Spirit of Service Day on Saturday, April 21. Dothan’s Spirit of Service Day provides local residents with opportunities to give back to their community by doing volunteer work for local schools and non-profits.

For their service project, students volunteered at The Exchange Center for Child Abuse Prevention. The Exchange Center provides free services to victims of abuse such as trauma therapy, in-home support services, trauma-focused support groups, and training for parents and professionals.

WCCD student volunteers painted a classroom and helped prepare materials for The Superhero Run. The students also learned valuable information about the services provided by The Exchange Center.

WCCD students have many opportunities to make an impact on the community through Service-Learning projects such as Spirit of Service Day. Students are able to address local needs while developing their academic skills and commitment to their community.

The Superhero Run will be held on Saturday, April 28. To register for the Run or for more information on The Exchange Center for Child Abuse, go to www.exchangecap.org.
