WCC holding Breast Cancer Awareness events in October

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and many departments and student groups at Wallace Community College hold events to heighten awareness for this initiative.

Here are some things happening on Wallace Campus in Dothan and Sparks Campus in Eufaula during October. Don’t see your group or department event? Let us know at pr@wallace.edu, and we will add you to the list!

• Wallace Community College Sparks Campus SGA hosted the “Pink Out for October” event on Monday, Oct. 5, at the Sparks Campus. Students, faculty and staff wore pink for those who have survived and for those who are currently battling the disease.

• The Art Club's first event is a Breast Cancer Awareness Splash Balloon Painting on Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 8 a.m. until noon on the grass outside of Cherry Hall.

Participants will donate $1 for Breast Cancer Research and receive a paint-filled balloon to throw at a large canvas. The colors will be shades of pink and the canvas will have a large stencil of the breast cancer awareness symbol. The finished piece will be on display in the glass wall in Cunningham Hall. Medical Assisting is challenging everyone to a “Pink Out” on Monday, Oct. 19, for breast cancer awareness. Medical assistant students will start the week off with the “Pink Out” day to support breast cancer awareness, as well as kick off Medical Assistants Recognition Week, which is Oct. 19-23. Keep an eye out for breast cancer awareness messages and facts around campus from the department.

• Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine and Wallace are joining forces on a joint team for the Eighth Annual Sandi McCool Champions of Hope presented by SAMC Foundation!

The walk is Saturday, Oct. 17, at the ACOM Campus. Registration starts at 6 a.m. and events kick off at 8 a.m. The event includes a 5K/10K race, a 1-mile spirit walk and a Kid Fit Challenge. This family friendly event will have radio broadcasts, as well as vendor booths, food and drinks. Sign up and walk with the ACOM/Wallace team at bit.ly/acomwallace.
