Wallace sweeps Jeff Davis
BREWTON--The Wallace Govs are assured of at least remaining in a tie for first place in the Southern Division after their sweep of Jeff Davis Community College Saturday afternoon. The Govs won the first game 10-4 then finished things off with an 11-8 victory in the nightcap.
The win was the fifth consecutive conference victory for the Govs. Wallace improved to 8-2 in conference play, 15-11 overall.
The Govs hot streak comes at about the same time that Rehobeth's Jake Brown has also gotten hot. The short stop who is also the Govs leadoff hitter, went 3-for-4 with a double, triple and three RBIs in game one. Austin Whitlock went 2-for-5 with two RBIs and a stolen base. John Hutto also went 2-for-5 with two RBIs.
Jordan Martin got the win. He pitched five innings, gave up six hits, struck out five and allowed two walks. Austin Bizzle pitched the final two innings and struck out four while allowing one hit and giving up two runs.
Brown continued his good work in game two, going 3-for-5 with a triple, double and an RBI. However he was topped by Whitlock who with 5-for-5 (all singles) with an RBI and a stolen base. Jonathan Lambright went 3-for-4 while Aaron Green went 2-for-5 with two RBIs, and Smith with 2-for-5 with a stolen base.
Wes Carter picked up the win, tossing 4 1/3 innings, giving up six runs, five hits, and striking out four. Ty Inlow came on to get the save. He pitched the final 2 2/3 innings, giving up two runs and striking out four.
The Govs return to action Tuesday. They will travel to Bay Minette to take on Faulkner State in another conference doubleheader.
