WCC Student Named Community College Academic Team Scholar
Dothan, Ala. – Wallace Community College student Alexia Vasquez has been selected as a 2014 Coca-Cola Community College Academic Team Bronze Scholar. The selection is based on scores Vasquez earned in the All-USA Community College Academic Team competition. More than 1,700 applications were received this year.
"It is truly an honor to be named a Bronze Scholar, and to be able to represent Wallace Community College," said Vasquez. As a Bronze Scholar, Vasquez will receive a $1,000 scholarship. She is also on the All-Alabama Academic Team, whose members receive a $1,000 scholarship.
The program, which is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation, is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. All-Alabama Team Members will be recognized in April at the All-Alabama Academic Team banquet in Montgomery.
Vasquez’ goal is to become a registered nurse. She plans to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing and attend the University of Alabama – Birmingham to become a Nurse Anesthetist.
Phi Theta Kappa is recognized as the official honor society for community colleges by the American Association of Community Colleges.
