| Wallace splits with Alabama Southern | 2008-05-02 |
| MONROEVILLE--In the final conference series of the season, the Wallace Govs split a pair of games here Friday afternoon against Alabama Southern. It was a pitcher's duel in game one, and Wallace fell 3-2. But in the nightcap, the Govs bats got going and Wallace won 11-2. | |
| In the first game, the Govs got a solo home run from Ryan Reece in the seventh inning, followed by an RBI single from Daniel Torrente. That put the Govs up 2-0. But in the bottom of the ninth, Joseph Braswell, who had pitched the entire game, gave up a three-run homer to give Alabama Southern the lead. In game two, Torrente hit a grand slam and a double. Esterlin Perozo went 3-for-4 with two RBIs. The split assured Alabama Southern of winning the conference. Wallace is firmly entrenched in second place with the state tournament set to get underway next weekend. These two teams are scheduled to play the final game of their three game series Saturday afternoon if weather permits. The Govs will play their final regular season game Sunday afternoon when they host Chipola on the Wallace campus at 2 p.m. | |
