Wallace Community College Sparks Foundation

back (Foundations Home)

Who We Are:

The Sparks State Technical College Foundation was formed by an executive committee in 1990 under the leadership of Dr. Linda C. (Wilson) Young. The committee appointed a 12-member board in 1991 and began friend-raising and fund-raising. As a result of the merger with Wallace Community College, the Board of Directors recently voted to change the name of the Foundation to The Wallace Community College Sparks Campus Foundation.

The major objective of the Foundation is to develop private resources to provide scholarships to Wallace Community College - Sparks Campus, to support the College's instructional programs, and to provide professional development and technical training opportunities for Wallace Community College - Sparks Campus faculty.

Over the past 15 years, several scholarships have been endowed with more than $65,000 in assistance awarded to deserving students.

While the majority of the Foundation’s scholarships are set up by private donors, the Bush/Willis Scholarship was established by co-workers in memory of two long-time Sparks employees, Glenda Bush and Luwuan Willis in 1997. This scholarship is funded by employee donations, payroll deductions, and fund-raising activities.

The Foundation is managed by a volunteer Board of Directors who believe in the college and its mission.
