Ophthalmic Assistant


Ophthalmic Assistants work as vital members of the eye-care team. Ophthalmic Assistants work directly with patients to record ocular histories, perform specialized ophthalmic testing, and assist physicians in both the examination room and also in surgery.

The 14-week course of study is designed by the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Students may sit for the Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) examination after successfully completing this course along with six months of direct supervision by a physician.

Prerequisites include:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
