Professional Medical Coding


A professional medical coder is responsible for reviewing medical records while identifying and translating medical procedures into proper diagnostic codes. The 40-week course of study is designed by the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC). Students may sit for the Professional Coder (PC) examination after successfully completing this course.  

Prerequisites include:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent
  • Proof of successful completion in both a human anatomy course as well as a medical terminology course
