Beginning fall semester Wallace Community College will
offer a newly structured Industrial Electronics Technology
(ILT) curriculum which changes the focus from applied
electronics to industrial network technologies.
“This is the hottest growing section in the IT world with
a limitless horizon,” says instructor Chris Purvis. This
growth includes modification of the entire program, as well as the addition of six new ILT courses. The emergence
of multi-platform wireless communications in WAN and
LAN structures requires technologists to possess intimate
knowledge of network infrastructure including network
operating systems, programming languages, protocol
specifications, server design and integration, and common
network device specifications.
Nine new state college courses were developed for this
program, including three adopted into the Alabama College
System statewide curriculum. Several of Alabama’s leading industries are partnering with the Industrial Network Technologies program to ensure top paying technical positions are always available to program graduates. These include Mercedes Benz,
Verizon, AT&T, CISCO, Alabama Power, Hyundai, and
Intel.
Features of this option include Visual Studio. Net
programming and network industrial certificates including
Microsoft Certified System Engineer, CISCO Certified
Network Administrator, Network + CompTIA LAN Certified
Administrator, and A+ Computer Technician Certification;
and wireless devices including IEEE 802.11X high speed
wireless network and wide area network technologies.
