In its commitment to provide accessible education options for registered nurses who want to return to school, The University of Alabama Capstone College of Nursing has established partnerships with community colleges across the State of Alabama. Wallace Community College sealed this partnership in 2001 and has since sought to be responsive to the needs of Registered Nurses in our local community.

The RN to BSN Mobility program can be divided into two parts. The initial activities of a student will consist of enrollment in any additional general academic courses required to meet the course requirements for a four-year degree. These academic requirements may be met through Wallace Community College and under the tuition rate of the two-year college system. As completion of these courses nears, application and enrollment in The University and in the College of Nursing will be pursued. Credit for 38 hours of nursing courses is awarded to a Registered Nurse pursuing mobility, with no validation testing of prior learning or the repeat of courses successfully completed with a grade of "C" or higher required. Six courses comprise the remaining nursing requirements and all are completed through distance education in one calendar year. In other words, a Registered Nurse can remain in his/her local community, continue the things that typically encompass their lives, and receive a BSN degree from The University of Alabama! In addition, the only outlay of four-year tuition is for the six nursing courses -- the remainder is at the two-year rate.

Eligibility for enrollment in the nursing courses offered through the Capstone College of Nursing include admission to The University of Alabama, a grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.00 scale in required academic courses, and eligibility for licensure as a Registered Nurse in Alabama. Each potential mobility student has their own personal educational record, including transfer credits from other institutions, course requirements of a particular nursing curriculum, etc. For a personalized evaluation of general academic needs and/or additional information, please contact Kathy Buntin by clicking here or calling her, 334-556-2292. Distance education mobility tracks through the WCC/UA partnership also exist for students interested in pursuing a MSN or possibly a BSN/MSN combination. Please feel free to contact Ms. Buntin or visit http://nursing.ua.edu/rn_options_future.htm for additional information.
