| The Governor’s Office of Workforce Development awarded a $24,300 grant to Wallace Community College to fund dual enrollment scholarships for qualified high school students from Abbeville, Barbour County, Dale County, Eufaula, and Headland High Schools who are interested in entering the welding or industrial maintenance workforce. | Eufaula, Ala.—Wallace Community College recently hosted approximately 475 area fourth graders for the 2008 Barbour/Bullock Groundwater Festival. The event, themed “We’re In a Drought, Don’t Pout, Help Out,” complements the Alabama fourth-grade science curriculum, which includes a study of the environment and the effects of pollution. | |

| WCC Brings Wiregrass Native Author Home to Dothan | 2008-04-25 |
| Noted author and Wiregrass native Cassandra King will visit Dothan Monday, May 5, thanks to Wallace Community College, Wiregrass Museum of Art and the Alabama Humanities Foundation. King is also the wife of renowned novelist Pat Conroy (author of modern classic novels, The Prince of Tides, The Lords of Discipline and The Great Santini). A forum, which is open to the general public, will be at the Wiregrass Museum of Art at 6:30 p.m., and a reception will follow. | |

| Hoang Nguyen, Dothan, recently received Wallace Community College’s highest honor, the James Browning Allen Outstanding Student Award, at a ceremony recognizing the College’s top students. Nguyen is recognized for his outstanding scholarship, leadership and citizenship. Presenting the award is WCC Dean of Academic Affairs and Health Sciences John R. Fergus. | |

| Wallace Community College is taking proactive measures to maintain its position as a leader in education by reinventing itself as a “Global Learner College.” According to WCC President Linda C. Young, Wallace will be the first GLC in the nation and will serve as a pilot program for The Slater Group, owner of the trademarked term and program. Dr. Roger Slater, president of the Atlanta-based consulting firm, says the GLC concept is designed to ensure students are prepared for success in the current global workforce and that College programs and services meet the changing economic development needs of local communities. | |

| In 2007, Wallace Community College initiated a “Victory Flag” ceremony as a formal means of celebrating the various accomplishments and milestones reached throughout the year. The ceremony is a way of improving internal morale by publicly recognizing and applauding these efforts, which are vital to the overall success of the institution and the students we serve. The celebration is accomplished simultaneously at each Wallace instructional site: the Wallace Campus in Dothan, the Sparks Campus in Eufaula, the WCC Fort Rucker Center, and the WCC Center for Economic and Workforce Development. | |

| Eufaula, Ala.--Since 1995, the Wallace Community College Upward Bound program has helped area students from disadvantaged backgrounds enjoy academic success at the high school and postsecondary levels. According to Nina Stokes, WCC Upward Bound director, the student response and their level of success has been overwhelming, and she is excited about the positive momentum her students are enjoying. | |
