ENGLISH COMMUNICATIONS DIVISION
The English Communications Division at Wallace Community College prepares students who have various levels of proficiency to reach an optimum level of performance in reading and writing. The courses offered by the division enable students to qualify for graduation and to perform successfully in four-year colleges and provide experiences that help all students build core competencies in written communication, critical thinking, technological experience, and knowledge of self and society.
The English Communications Division employs full-time instructors
and adjunct instructors
with a wide range of experiences. The English Communications Division has a mission that supports the Wallace Community College mission as well as our state and global communities. The strength of the division lies in its excellent faculty, who are engaged in community outreach as well as teaching. Faculty members publish articles in scholarly journals, provide support to area pageants, sponsor reading initiatives in area elementary schools, host nationally known speakers, produce dramatic performances and provide students opportunities to learn about other cultures. They engage with business and industry and seek continually to strengthen connections between collegiate and K-12 educators to create an exciting intellectual environment for faculty, students, and the community. The English Communications Division’s Director is Tara Estes, 1141 Wallace Drive, Dothan, Alabama 36303; Wallace Hall 235, 334-556-2393 or firstname.lastname@example.org
Courses are offered in a variety of settings, including the following: traditional classroom offerings that meet on mornings, afternoons, and evenings and at times convenient for all, including some weekends; hybrid courses that meet face-to-face once per week and online; mini-term classes that meet for half a semester and offer a complete series (like ENG 101 and 102; ENG 271 and 272, for example) to be completed in one semester; and online courses that offer instruction online and limited visits to the campus for exams.
We also sponsor Sigma Kappa Delta
, the two-year college English honor society. Our writing success center, The Writing Center
, is housed in the Center for Academic Success, Room 133, and offers non-credit assistance with improving writing skills.
