Baseball

Welcome to the George C. Wallace Community College baseball web site. The Govs baseball program has a rich baseball tradition which holds six state championships and eight Runner-ups. We also have 15 Southern League Championships. Many former Govs have played or are playing in D-1 or professional ranks. In 1998, I was named Head Baseball Coach after spending nine seasons in Major League Baseball playing with the Mets, Giants, Mariners, and Pirates. I was a member of the Governor's State Championship team in 1982-83, so coaching here is a very special opportunity for me. WCC is a member of the Southern Conference, universally regarded as one of the top junior college baseball conferences. We have won four conference championships out of the past sixteen years. Each year three teams from the North, three teams from the Central, and four teams from the Southern Division compete in the Regional State Tournament with one team receiving an automatic bid to the NJCAA National Championship in Grand Junction, Colorado. We have hosted the State Tournament ten out of the last twelve years at Westgate Park in Dothan and at Eagle Stadium in Ozark, Alabama. Thank you for visiting the Govs Baseball Web site!

Sincerely,

Mackey Sasser
Head Baseball Coach/Athletic Director
