Wallace Community College offers student activities, programs, and services that promote leadership, academic support, and social and cultural experiences. These are listed alphabetically followed by a code indicating the campus or site on which the activity is available:

Art Club (W)
An organization designed to expose students to art and promote an appreciation for art across campus. The art club is open to all art students and those interested in art.

Athletics (W)
Wallace Community College is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association and the Alabama Junior College Conference. The College engages in intercollegiate competition in softball and baseball.

Diplomats (W) (S)
The Wallace Community College Diplomats serve as official hosts and hostesses for the College. The program is designed to recognize outstanding students in the areas of academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and community concern. To be eligible for membership, students must be recommended by faculty or staff members and be interviewed by the Diplomat Selection Committee.

Jazz Band (W)
The Jazz Band is an organization that provides recreation and entertainment through musical participation. Membership is open to all students who have successfully auditioned. The Jazz Band participates in and helps sponsor the annual Downhome Jazz Festival each May.

Phi Beta Lambda (S)

Phi Beta Lambda (PBL) is a business fraternity that provides opportunities for students to develop business-related career competencies.  PBL is an integral part of the instructional program and promotes a sense of civic and personal responsibility among its students.

Phi Theta Kappa (W)(S)
ptk logoPhi Theta Kappa is an international honor society. To be eligible for membership, a student must complete a minimum of 12 semester hours (excluding developmental course work) toward an AA, AS, or AAS degree and have a minimum GPA of 3.5. First-term freshmen who were members of the National Honor Society, Beta Club, recipients of a WCC academic scholarship, or who scored 25+ on the ACT exam may enter into the organization immediately, as provisional members. Refuge is an organization that encourages Christian fellowship among students, both on and off campus.  Refuge is open to all students regardless of religious preference.

Respiratory Therapy Association for Better Breathing (W)

The purpose of this organization is to educate the public about respiratory care and respiratory health issues, raise awareness of the professional practice of respiratory care and to actively promote respiratory therapy as a rewarding and challenging career choice.  Core goals include informing the public and prospective students about the indispensable services provided by respiratory care professional and raising the profession’s profile in the community and beyond.

Sigma Kappa Delta (W)

Sigma Kappa Delta (SKD) is an English Honor Society that strives to confer distinction for high achievement in English language and literature, provide cultural stimulation on the college campus, promote interest in literature and English language, foster discipline of English in all its aspects including creative and critical writing, promote community among its members, and exhibit high standards of academic excellence.  SKD is responsible for the publication of Calla, the college’s creative writing newsletter.

Society of Physics Students (W)

This organization encourages and assists students who are interested in physics to develop the knowledge, competence, enthusiasm, and social responsibility that are essential to the advancement of physics.

Student Government Association (W)(S)
Student Government Associations (SGAs) provide leadership opportunities for students on the Wallace and Sparks Campuses. The SGAs are governed by published by-laws that are made available to students at each applicable site. For more information, please contact Student Affairs personnel.

Student Physical Therapy Assistant Association (W)

The student PTA Association represents and promotes the profession of physical therapy and helps educate the public about the physical therapy needs of members of society.

TRIO Programs
Wallace Community College offers three TRIO programs. These federally funded programs provide outreach and support services to assist disadvantaged students in progressing from middle school to post-baccalaureate programs.


Student Support Services - SSS (W) (S) offers academic assistance and support services to students meeting certain requirements. Students desiring free tutoring from experienced student tutors are encouraged to apply. In addition to academic assistance, SSS offers a full range of counseling services and resources. Transfer students who qualify have the opportunity to participate in escorted visits to senior universities throughout the State of Alabama. Any student who has completed at least three terms of course work and who has a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA may qualify for part-time employment as a tutor in the SSS program. SSS offers a supportive atmosphere that is conducive to a student's academic and social development. Talent Search (S) identifies and assists individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds who have the potential to succeed in higher education. The program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to its participants and encourages them to graduate from high school and continue on to the postsecondary school of their choice.

Upward Bound (S) provides fundamental support to participants in their preparation for college entrance. The program provides opportunities for participants to succeed in pre-college performance and ultimately in higher education pursuits.

Vocational Industrial Clubs of America (W) (S)
skills usa logoVocational Industrial Clubs of America (VICA) is a local, state, and national organization designed to promote excellence in technical skills. Students conduct the organization, and any student enrolled in a vocational, industrial, technical, or health occupations field is eligible for membership. The club's activities include local competitions, conducted in April of each year, and national competitions, conducted in June of each year.

Wallace Association of Nursing Students (W)
The Wallace Association of Nursing Students (WANS) is an organization composed of Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) students. The purpose of WANS is to support and enhance the philosophy, purpose, goals, and policies of the ADN program; promote educational and professional development; and contribute to the health care of the community.

Wallace Choir (W)

The Wallace Community College Choir is open to all students who have successfully auditioned.  It is the official College choir and its purpose is to provide an opportunity for advanced vocal training through study and performance of choral literature.
