Upward Bound is a rigorous, year-round college-preparatory program for high school students.  Our mission is to assist low-income, first-generation college bound high school students in the completion of secondary education and prepare them academically and socially for enrollment and completion of higher education.  Program participants are provided rigorous academic courses; tutoring services; college-preparatory workshops; career advising and exploration activities; volunteer opportunities; and cultural enrichment. Upward Bound offers services to students through weekday and weekend sessions during the school year and a six-week summer program at Wallace Community College Sparks Campus.

Since 1992, Wallace Community College Upward Bound Program has enjoyed continuous funding to serve deserving high school students.  We work with over 70 rural area high school students each year, enrolled at Abbeville High, Barbour County High, Bullock County High, and Eufaula High.  Upward Bound provides students with a small stipend after completion of the academic year activities and the culmination of the summer session.

Students attend the academic program on scheduled weekdays during the school year and daily for six weeks during the summer.  Workshops, cultural enrichment trips, and college visits are offered throughout the year and may occur on weekdays or weekends.

Academic classes offered include: Math, Science, English/Literature, Computer Technology, and Spanish.  Students are given rigorous assignments for each class and have the opportunity to obtain assistance with current high school assignments.

Workshops are used to present various topics. Past workshops include:  Step Up to S.T.E.M., Financial Aid for College, Welcome to the Real World; Attitude is Everything, ACT Prep for Success, Lunch and Learn Session, Career Assessment Exploration.

Trips are planned for students throughout the year.  Local area trips have included excursions to state parks, museums, and colleges.  Students have also had opportunities to visit and Spartanburg, South Carolina; Washington, D.C.; Williamsburg, Virginia; Atlanta, Georgia; Chattanooga, Tennessee; Chicago, Illinois; Little Rock, Arkansas; and New York City.

Interested students who are selected to participate in Upward Bound will have unique support and guidance to meet personal, educational, and professional goals.  To be eligible for Upward Bound students must be:
