Information for Graduates

What to Expect at the Ceremony

Arrive on time!

Graduates MUST arrive no later than 60 minutes prior to the ceremony. Graduates must be lined up 30 minutes before the ceremony starts.

Doors open 60 minutes prior to the ceremony start time.

Graduates who purchased a photo package should arrive shortly after the doors are opened to have photos taken.

Bring your photo I.D.

Arrive in full academic regalia. Cap and gowns should not be altered or embellished in any way.

In addition to the black robe, men should wear a white shirt, dark tie, dark dress pants, socks and shoes (preferably dark). No jeans, athletic shoes, or sandals.

Women should wear a dress, a top with a skirt, or dark pants (no jeans). If dress is worn, it should not extend below the hem of the gown. Please wear flats or wedges.

🌟Dual Enrollment graduates may wear their High School regalia in the WCC Commencement ceremony.

All graduates will receive an official commencement name card that is used to display names during the commencement ceremony.

If a graduate does not have the preprinted name card at the graduation ceremony, a write-in card can be provided pending graduation status verification.

Special accommodations (special seating, interpretive services, etc.) for graduating students are available upon request. To make requests, please contact Dr. Ryan Spry at rspry@wallace.edu or call (334) 556-2587.

All requests for special accommodations should be made at least 4 weeks before the commencement ceremony.

A professional photographer will be onsite to photograph graduates before the ceremony starts. Only graduates with paid orders will be photographed.

Special Note: There will not be a graduation practice. If you have a difficult name to pronounce, email graduation@wallace.edu with a phonetic spelling by May 1, 2026.

Students will be allowed to have their cell phone during the event. However, the cell phone must be placed in silent mode. 

In order to be respectful during this formal ceremony, students are not allowed to take pictures or make video recordings with their cell phone on stage.

  • Shakers, noisemakers, and fireworks
  • Signs, posters, and fat heads
  • Camera cases and camera bags
  • Clear bags larger than 12” × 6” × 12”
  • Weapons (including pocket knives)
  • Wrapped gifts

Tip: Leaving nonessential items at home or in your vehicle helps reduce lines and speeds up entry.

Clear Bag Policy Strictly Enforced

A clear bag policy is in effect to enhance existing security measures and expedite entry to the venue.

  • One clear bag or tote per person
  • Maximum size: 12” × 6” × 12”
