WHAT IS TRIO TALENT SEARCH?
Talent Search is a federally-funded program designed to identify students in grades 6-12 and adults to age 27 with potential for education at the postsecondary level and to encourage them to complete middle school and high school and enroll in and graduate from college.

GOALS

  • Decrease the dropout rate
  • Increase the high school graduation rate
  • Increase the number of youths from disadvantaged backgrounds who complete high school and enroll in and graduate from postsecondary educational institutions

WHAT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED?

Academic Services:

  • Academic assessment
  • Assistance with high school and college course selection
  • Student success workshops held 4 times per year for each grade level
  • Workshops for families of participants
  • Assistance with completing admissions forms and the full range of financial aid documents
  • Connections to high quality tutoring
  • Report card checks
  • Financial literacy
  • Mentoring opportunities
  • Secondary or postsecondary school reentry
  • College entrance exam preparation
  • Summer enrichment
  • Career Exploration
  • Postsecondary tracking up to 6 years following high school graduation

Cultural Experiences

  • Cultural enrichment activities
  • Trips to college campuses

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
There is no charge to participants in the Talent Search program. Eligible students need only to invest time, interest, and the willingness to fulfill their maximum potential and a desire to earn a postsecondary credential.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Meet the specific income criteria established by the U.S. Department of Education
(and/or)
Be first-generation college status (neither parent has a four-year college degree)
Be in need of services
