WCCD Celebrates National Peace Officers Memorial Day and Honors Law Enforcement Services

Wallace Campus Police TruckWallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) proudly joined communities across the nation in recognizing National Peace Officers Memorial Day and honoring the courageous men and women who serve in law enforcement. The College extends its sincere gratitude to all officers who work each day to protect and serve their communities with professionalism, integrity, and compassion.

At WCCD, campus safety remains a top priority. The College is proud of its outstanding Police Department, whose officers are committed to maintaining a secure, welcoming, and supportive environment for students, employees, and visitors. Through proactive patrols, strong community relationships, emergency preparedness, and a student-centered approach, the department plays a vital role in ensuring the success and well-being of the campus community.

“Today, we honor the dedication and sacrifice of law enforcement officers everywhere, especially those who serve our College and the Wiregrass region,” said Dr. Kathy Murphy. “Our Police Department exemplifies professionalism and care in every interaction, and we are deeply grateful for their commitment to keeping our campus safe. We also recognize the many officers throughout our communities whose service strengthens and protects our region each day.”

The College’s commitment to public safety also extends into the classroom through its Criminal Justice Program, which prepares future law enforcement professionals and public service leaders for meaningful careers in the field. Students receive high-quality instruction and practical training that emphasizes ethics, leadership, communication, and community engagement. Graduates of the program continue to make a positive impact in law enforcement agencies and public safety organizations across Alabama and beyond.

For Summer 2025, Fall 2025 and Spring 2026, the College awarded 49 degrees and certificates in the CRJ program.

WCCD is also proud of its strong campus safety record, reflected in the College’s annual Clery Act Report. The report demonstrates the effectiveness of the College’s safety initiatives, campus partnerships, and ongoing efforts to foster a secure educational environment where students can focus on learning and achieving their goals with confidence.

“This day is an important reminder of the dedication and sacrifice of law enforcement officers everywhere,” said WCCD Police Chief Seth Brown. “I’m incredibly proud of our officers and the work they do each day, both seen and unseen, to help keep the Wallace and Sparks campuses safe and welcoming for our students, employees, and visitors. I also appreciate the College for recognizing National Peace Officers Memorial Day and for its continued support of campus safety.”

The College expresses its heartfelt appreciation to all law enforcement officers, past and present, for their sacrifice, dedication, and unwavering service to others.
