WCCD Adult Education Class of 2026
Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) celebrated a record number of graduates during its Adult Education Class of 2026 commencement ceremony Sunday, April 26, at Cherry Hall in Dothan.
The ceremony honored 83 students, the largest class in over a decade, who completed General Educational Development (GED) credentials and the High School Diploma Option (HSDO) through the College’s Adult Education program. Family members, friends, faculty, staff and community partners gathered to recognize the historic graduating class.
Lilian Ayala was recognized as the Honor Graduate of the Class of 2026. Student addresses were delivered by Salutatorian Ja’Taryin Jones and Valedictorian Mary Brock. Oveta Carey, retired Director of Federal Programs for Enterprise City Schools, delivered the keynote address.
“Our Adult Education graduation this year marks a significant milestone, as we celebrate the largest graduating class in over a decade,” said Barbara Steger, WCCD Director of Adult Education. “Each graduate has demonstrated remarkable perseverance, earning either a high school diploma or a GED despite challenges that once seemed insurmountable to many.”
“Guided by this year’s theme, ‘Finish What You Started’, these individuals have honored commitments made—often many years ago—and transformed them into tangible achievement,” Steger added. “We take great pride in their success and are confident that they will carry this determination forward as they pursue higher education, enter the workforce, or serve in the military. In doing so, they will make meaningful and lasting contributions to their communities.”
Certificates were presented by Dr. Ashli Wilkins, WCCD Vice-President and Dean of Institutional Services and Community Development.
WCCD remains committed to expanding access to education and strengthening the Wiregrass region through free Adult Education programs, including GED preparation, High School Diploma Option coursework, English Language Learners and Literacy classes, college and career readiness, and workforce support services
