WCCD’s Dual Enrollment program saw its highest enrollment totals in history during the Spring 2026 semester, with 1,178 high school students enrolled.
Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) achieved a record-breaking Spring 2026 semester for its Dual Enrollment program, with 1,178 high school students enrolled and a total of 4,912 college credit hours earned – the highest enrollment figures in the program’s history.
WCCD’s Dual Enrollment program allows eligible high school students to earn college credit while completing high school requirements, saving time and money while accelerating progress toward certificates, credentials, or degrees.
This significant growth reflects WCCD’s continued commitment to expanding access to higher education while supporting Alabama’s future workforce. Several key factors contributed to the increase, including grant funding that allows eligible students to enroll in up to two college courses at no cost, as well as participation in the WallaceBooks+ textbook rental program through Barnes & Noble, which helps reduce the financial burden for students and families.
In addition, more feeder high schools are actively encouraging students to explore career and technical education (CTE) pathways as a valuable and practical option. These programs align closely with regional and statewide workforce needs, providing students with industry-relevant skills, credentials, and a strong foundation for high-demand careers.
“Dual Enrollment continues to be a powerful opportunity for students to get a head start on college while still in high school,” said Jennifer Matheny, WCCD Dual Enrollment Coordinator. “By removing financial barriers and strengthening partnerships with our K-12 schools, Wallace is helping students make informed choices that support both their academic goals and the workforce needs of our communities.”
