The Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) men’s golf team has claimed the 2026 Alabama Community College Conference (ACCC) D2 Championship, completing a remarkable comeback victory at Cypress Lakes Golf Club.
After opening the tournament in fourth place following the first day’s two rounds—trailing the leader by 12 strokes—the Govs surged on the final day with one of the strongest performances in the field. WCCD posted a team score of just one over par, while tournament leader Shelton State Community College finished at +19. The Govs’ consistency and resilience propelled them to their first ACCC Men’s Golf Championship title since 1991.
“This team showed incredible focus and determination,” said Head Coach Scott Stephens. “To come from behind in a field this competitive and finish the way we did speaks volumes about their character and work ethic.”
Leading the way was standout golfer Trenton Ables, who delivered an exceptional performance, finishing the tournament at six under par—six strokes ahead of the nearest competitor. Ables earned Tournament Medalist honors and was named to the All-Tournament Team. He entered the championship as the reigning ACCC Golfer of the Week and continued his strong season with another dominant showing.
WCCD placed all five of its golfers in the top 16 out of 55 competitors. Cooper Weeks finished in 10th place with a total score of +6, highlighted by a one-under performance on the final day. Weeks was also named All-Conference. Ian Senn, competing in just his fourth tournament of the season, secured 13th place at +7. Grayson Lozano and Alex Broadaway each finished tied for 16th at +9.
With the conference title secured, the Govs now advance to the NJCAA South District Championship, set for April 19–21 at Cider Ridge Golf Club in Oxford, Alabama. WCCD will compete against the same conference field along with Lake Sumter State College, with the top two teams earning a berth to the NJCAA Division II Golf Championship in Plymouth, Indiana, May 19–22.
