Wallace Community College is proud to celebrate the deep and ongoing ties its leaders and Foundation Board members have with Leadership Alabama, a statewide program that cultivates leaders committed to moving Alabama forward. The group of area alumni met on Thursday to welcome in the program’s newest Wiregrass participants.
Leadership Alabama is a statewide nonprofit organization that brings together each fall a class of participants from across the state. The program objective is to present a series of issues-oriented forums based on the belief that knowledge is a key element and prime motivator of leadership. Class members visit communities across the state, and as they seek a mutual understanding of the state’s problems and priorities, they also seek to invent vital solutions to the challenges that define the future of Alabama.
From retired president Dr. Linda Young, who now serves on the Leadership Alabama Board, to current president Dr. Kathy Murphy and vice president Dr. Ashli Wilkins, Wallace’s leadership has long been engaged in this distinguished program. Their participation underscores Wallace’s belief in building relationships that not only strengthen the College but also create lasting impact across the Wiregrass and beyond.
The Wallace Community College Foundation Board further reflects this strong connection. Members David Money (a Wallace alum), Beau Benton, Harrison Morris, Emily Heersink, John Coleman, Phil Clayton, Bob Dixon, and David Padgett have each completed the program, bringing valuable insight and statewide connections back to the Wiregrass region. Additionally, Jody Singleton, a proud Wallace alum, is currently participating as a member of the newest Leadership Alabama class.
“Leadership Alabama is about forging meaningful connections, gaining fresh perspectives, and bringing that knowledge back to strengthen communities,” said Dr. Murphy. “Wallace is proud to be part of a program that develops leaders who love our state and are committed to making it stronger.”
Through Leadership Alabama, Wallace leaders and board members have cultivated networks that help advance the College’s mission, elevate workforce development, and support opportunities that empower students. These ties are not only enriching the College but are also fueling regional growth, ensuring the Wiregrass remains a place where leaders are cultivated, nurtured, and celebrated.
The strong representation of Wallace leaders in Leadership Alabama is a testament to the College’s role in growing individuals who share a deep commitment to the state’s future. As the Wiregrass continues to thrive, Wallace Community College remains dedicated to producing leaders who care deeply about Alabama and who are shaping a brighter tomorrow.
