Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) will return to Fort Rucker to offer its Automotive Technology program on-site, expanding access to hands-on, career-enhancing training for service members, veterans, and the Rucker community. Classes will begin on May 20.
The on-site Automotive Technology program is designed for those pursuing careers in the automotive field and for individuals looking to strengthen practical mechanical skills that complement and enhance their military training and occupational specialties. This renewed partnership reflects WCCD’s commitment to supporting the unique needs of the military population by delivering flexible, high-quality technical education directly on the Fort Rucker Base.
Through a combination of classroom instruction and hands-on experience, students will develop competencies in key areas, including braking systems, electrical fundamentals, engine performance, hybrid/electric vehicle technology, and other emerging technologies. These skills of supporting readiness, problem-solving, and technical proficiency are highly transferable across a wide range of military and civilian applications.
Students will also have the opportunity to earn industry-recognized certifications. To accommodate varying schedules, WCCD will offer both morning and evening classes, providing the flexibility needed to balance military duties, work, and personal commitments.
“Bringing this program back to Fort Rucker allows us to better serve those who serve,” said Clay Grantham, WCCD Automotive Instructor. “In this program, individuals are working directly with the systems they’ll encounter every day, learning how to diagnose problems, make repairs, and understand how modern vehicles operate. These are practical skills that translate well in the military and beyond.”
