Mackey Sasser, Head Coach

Coach Sasser was named Wallace-Dothan’s head coach at the beginning of the 1997-1998 baseball season. Starting the 2011-2012 season, Coach Sasser was named the Athletic Director for all Govs’ sports. Wallace recently finished runner-up in the 2021 NJCAA Region XXII tournament. Going into the 2021-2022 Season, Sasser has a record of 779-442 as head coach at Wallace. Coach Sasser has been named Coach of the Year six times (2000, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2017, 2019), and also led the Govs to the Conference Championships in 2000, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2017, and 2021. Under Coach Sasser, the Govs were NJCAA Region XXII Champions in 2017 and State Runner-ups six times (2000, 2002, 2006, 2014, 2016, & 2021).

Coach Sasser grew up in Tallahassee, Florida where he attended Godby High School. He attended Wallace Community College from 1981-1983, where he was one of top JUCO prospects in the Alabama area and led the Govs to a State Championship in 1983. He signed with the San Francisco Giants organization after being drafted in the second round of the January free agent draft in 1984. Coach Sasser played three years in the Giants Minor League system. He was named Team MVP for all three years and Topps Minor League Player of the Year in 1985. Coach Sasser spent nine seasons in the MLB with the Giants, Pirates, Mets, and Mariners.

Coach Sasser now lives in Dothan with his wife Terra and their children.

Ryan Ihle, Assistant Coach & Recruiting Coordinator

Coach Ihle was recently named Wallace-Dothan’s assistant coach at the beginning of the Fall of 2021. Prior to his new position with the Gov’s, Coach Ihle was the assistant coach at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas where he worked primarily with hitters and infielders.  During his time with the Thunderbirds, the team composed a 28-24 record in 2021, with their season ending at the Region VI Sub-Regional Tournament.  Under Coach Ihle’s guidance, the T-Bird hitters broke the school record in doubles with 124 as a team and batted .315.  One of his hitters, Noah Olson, was also named a thejbb.net Second-Team All-American after breaking the school single-season record with 27 doubles and batting .404.

During the summers, Coach Ihle spends his time on Cape Cod, Massachusetts as an assistant coach with the Falmouth Commodores which competes in the prestigious Cape Cod Baseball League.  He has been a part of the coaching staff since 2019, helping assist with hitters, infielders and outfielders while also coaching first base.  During his first summer, the Commodores won the 2019 CCBL Western Division Title.

Coach Ihle originates from Brisbane, Australia where he attended Ferny Grove High School. He moved to the United States to pursue a baseball scholarship at Colby Community College in Colby, Kansas from 2012-14 and was named an All-Conference shortstop his sophomore year. Ihle then transferred to Division II powerhouse Columbus State University in Columbus, GA where he played shortstop for the Cougars from 2014-16.  He had a breakout year his senior year, with his efforts garnering him D2CAA All-America 2nd Team honors as a Shortstop.  Ihle was also recognized as a CoSIDA Academic All-American with his success in the classroom.

Before his time at Cloud County CC, Coach Ihle was the student assistant and graduate assistant at his alma mater, Columbus State University where he completed his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and his Master’s degree in Public Administration.

Spencer Price, Assistant Coach

Coach Price was recently named Wallace-Dothan’s pitching coach at the beginning of the Fall of 2021. Prior to his new position with the Gov’s, Coach Price was a pitcher for Mississippi State University’s baseball team. During his time with Mississippi State, he competed in 3 College World Series and won the 2021 National Championship title. While at MSU, Price was awarded 3rd Team All-American in 2017 and Pre-Season All-American in 2018. Price was also recognized as SEC Pitcher of the Week 3/9/20 – 3/15/20. Price had a total of 16 career saves during his time as a Bulldog.

Before his time at Mississippi State University, Coach Price was a member of Meridian Community College’s baseball team. While at Meridian, Price was First Team All-MACJC and Gold Glove Award Finalist in 2016. He appeared in a team-high 18 games where he came in as relief. Price led the team in victories, saves, and ERA.

Coach Price is a native of Olive Branch, Mississippi. He earned his Bachelor’s degree at his alma mater, Mississippi State University, in Kinesiology in 2019. In December 2020, he earned his Master’s degree in Workforce Education Leadership.
