At Wallace Community College, our Surgical Technology program is committed to excellence in healthcare education, focusing on developing well-rounded professionals ready to meet the demands of the operating room. Our goal is to prepare entry-level Surgical Technologists who are competent in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains to enter the profession.

Surgical Technology Student Learning Outcomes

  1. Recognize and apply surgical anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiology to a wide range of surgical procedures.
  2. Safely handle, label, and manage medications while performing within the role and responsibilities of a surgical technologist.
  3. Apply principles of basic science and standards of practice to ensure patient safety in sterilization, wound healing, and infection prevention.
  4. Maintain, assess, and monitor aseptic technique for themselves and other surgical team members throughout all phases of a procedure.
  5. Prepare, set up, and perform as the first scrub in basic surgical procedures across multiple specialties with accuracy and confidence.
  6. Demonstrate professional behaviors, including teamwork, communication, accountability, and ethical practice, consistent with the standards of the surgical technology profession.
