WCCD Faculty and Staff Enhance Instruction through Teaching with Artificial Intelligence Course

Wallace Community College-Dothan (WCCD) faculty and staff are actively engaging in a Teaching with Artificial Intelligence (AI) course sponsored by the Paths for Success Foundation, in partnership with the Biggio Center at Auburn University. Participation in this initiative underscores WCCD’s commitment to staying at the forefront of educational innovation and leveraging technology to enhance student learning experiences.

The course, designed to equip educators with the knowledge and skills to integrate AI effectively into their instructional practices, offers participants a comprehensive understanding of AI tools and techniques tailored for educational settings. Through hands-on training and collaborative learning opportunities, 188 WCCD faculty and staff are gaining insights into how AI can positively impact instruction at the College.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to participate in the partnership between Paths for Success Foundation and Auburn University’s Biggio Center to offer this transformative course to our faculty and staff,” said Dr. Linda C. Young, WCCD President. “In today’s rapidly evolving educational landscape, it is essential for educators to embrace innovative technologies like AI to better serve our students and prepare them for success in an increasingly digital world.”

By participating in the Teaching with Artificial Intelligence course, WCCD faculty and staff are demonstrating their dedication to continuous professional development and their commitment to delivering high-quality instruction. Through their increased knowledge of AI, educators are poised to explore new teaching methodologies, personalize learning experiences, and empower students to thrive in an AI-driven society.

“Our faculty and staff recognize the importance of staying current with advancements in technology and pedagogy,” said Dr. Young. “By incorporating best AI practices into instruction, we can create more engaging and inclusive learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of our student body.”

“The Teaching with Artificial Intelligence (AI) course explores the concept of ‘AI Disruption,’ examining how generative artificial intelligence tools impact education, encompassing both teaching and learning,” said Lisa Sanders, WCCD course facilitator and Director of Computer Information Science and Distance Learning. “The course aims to equip educators with a comprehensive understanding of AI terminology and tools while addressing ethical and technical considerations. It encourages educators to evaluate the potential impact of AI on various aspects of their courses, from assessments to curriculum design, and to develop policies that navigate the implications of AI in academic settings.”

Participants in the course have the ability to earn credentials upon completion, demonstrating their expertise in integrating AI into instruction and their commitment to continuous professional development.

The collaboration between the Paths for Success Foundation, and Auburn University’s Biggio Center offers the AI course to all institutions in the Alabama Community College System and exemplifies the power of partnerships in advancing educational excellence. Together, they are paving the way for a future where AI-enhanced instruction transforms the educational landscape and empowers learners to reach their full potential.
